It’s hard to be female!

“Well why don’t you ask Him?”

I have been reading “The hole in our Gospel” by Richard Stearns. I would highly recommend it to anyone. In the book he tells stories and statistics concerning the plight of the poor and marginalized. As I have seen so many times in India the poor really suffer and it breaks the heart of God. One thing we have witnessed and this book also confirms are the many injustices that the female gender face. In the last book of the bible it tells of a time when the Dragon can’t persecute the Son anymore so he turns his wrath on the female that bore the child. Here are a few examples of where we find ourselves in the history of the sexes.
- Compared to her male counterpart, a female is more likely to die by her 5th birthday and less likely to go to school, since girls are often forced to work instead of go to school.
- Two-thirds of the worlds 800 million illiterates are female.
- She is less apt to receive adequate food, health care and economic opportunities.
- She is more apt to be forced to marry before the age of 16, and to be a victim of domestic and sexual abuse.
- Over 200 million little girls, some as young as 5 are a part of the growing sex-slave trade and are forced into prostitution.
- 500,000 women die every year from complication in childbirth. That is one a minute! Baby girls are euthanized in countries where a male child is considered more valuable.
- Females are denied property rights and inheritance in many countries.
- Women own less than 1 % of the world’s property. (Unbelievable)
- Women work 2/3 rds of the world’s labor hours, yet they earn just 10 % of the world’s wages.
As I’ve witnessed many times females have to carry water for hours in the developing world. Often times this means that they won’t be educated because they are exhausted by this chore alone. Without Education they are trapped into systems of poverty that have been and continue to enslave them and their children.
I’ve seen little girls brutally taken to a place where over 100,000 men pay to abuse and steal the life away from precious little ones. Most of the time no one even knows what is going on toward them. I call this place “the place where females go to die.”
Why do we allow these things to continue? Why do I?
Do I really believe that if everything is OK with my family and me then everything is OK in the world?
What difference can one life make in the face of such injustices?
“Lord please help us to stand together and not tolerate these things any longer.”

Great Post D!
My immediate instictive feeling is to urgently shout out and do something, anything, to intelligently and passionately irradicate this and turn it around.
Oh Jesus, WHat can we do? WHAT CAN I DO????
Vanessa, this is the current situation, but there IS something you can do. The church is the answer. A very impactful outreach to make a difference is Project Red Light Rescue.
