Awareness is a Catalyst for Action – video excerpt of an interview with Mira Sorvino, UN Goodwill Ambassador to combat Human Trafficking

Posted on September 29th, 2009.

This video excerpt of an interview with Mira Sorvino, UN Goodwill Ambassador to Combat Human Trafficking, was published in February coinciding with the release of a UNGIFT Report on Human Trafficking.

Educating ourselves and becoming advocates for the eradication of Human Trafficking is the first step toward bringing an end to this form of slavery. To really have an impact, advocacy needs to be combined with active participation in programs that are actually helping victims (both in the short and long term) on the ground.

Effective advocacy involves both knowledge about the issue and its causes as well as knowledge of and participation in existing solutions to the problem. By only focusing on the enormous scope of the problem, we run the risk of sketching a very bleak picture instead of the picture of hope represented by the past successes and future impact of organizations working for the rescue and restoration of trafficking victims worldwide.

Sower of Seeds International partners with LIFE Outreach International and BTC India to rescue and provide a safe haven for victims that have been rescued out of the Asia’s largest red-light district. To support or find more information about this project, go to: www.sowerofseeds.org/rescue.
