Diarrhoea – Why children are still dying and what can be done: UNICEF and WHO launch report on the second greatest killer of children

Posted on April 1st, 2010.

UNICEF Recently released a report on diarrhoea, which is the second greatest cause of death in children under five, after pneumonia. The tragedy is that these deaths can be prevented.*

Among better sanitation facilities and practices, vaccinations and supplements, access to “improved water supply quantity and quality, including treatment and safe storage of household water” is an important key to preventing diarrhoea-related deaths in children.

Water wells provide a readily available source for safe, clean water.  While the cost of a single water well might be out of reach for many individuals we can make a difference by standing together and helping to provide these life-saving sources of water.

The average cost of a single water well is $4,800.

The 777 Campaign makes it easy for anyone to participate in the solution.  Let’s make a difference.
