Even in a hellish place, the love of Christ brings Life.

Posted on July 2nd, 2009.

The Life Outreach camera crew along with Lisa Bevere and Jeanne Rogers left Mumbai to return home last night.
We spent the bulk of three days and some late nights in the darkest place I’ve ever seen. Kamathipura is the largest red light district in Asia with somewhere upwards of 40,000 illegally trafficked sex workers. Little girls mostly. We found out that men here, similar to other places, will pay the highest rate for a night with a 12 year-old. I can’t even imagine that. These little girls are locked in rooms or cages for up to three years, never seeing the light of day. They are starved, beaten and repeatedly sexually abused until they won’t run away. Then they are turned out on the streets where they sell their bodies to whomever will take them for whatever they can fetch. Disease, abuse and despair take a heavy toll on these ladies. They believe that there is no hope for themselves, often begging us to take their children whom they love as any mother anywhere loves theirs. And it really seems a hopeless situation, but even in this place Christ’s love has the power to transform even the most broken. Nothing the enemy may do to a person is outside the ability and desire for the Love of God to bring about restoration and health. If I didn’t know ladies rescued and healed from this place I would have to say that the last thought was theory. But I see them here, redeemed, healthy and whole reaching back into the same hell they came from. An army of Saints, loving others into a new Kingdom. It is so easy to see the truth that our enemy came to kill, steal and destroy. That is what is happening here. But, Jesus Christ came that we might have life abundantly! Even here!
